POMPEII AND WALK IN NAPLES
Pick up at the port of Salerno. Arriving in Naples our team of guides will welcome you.
Ancient and rich city, Pompeii is a magnificent and historical example of life in the year 79 AD. The city was completely covered by lava from Vesuvius volcano. The excavations began in the seventeenth century and have brought to light items of immeasurable value. The guide will wait for you at the pier and will take you to visit the impressive Ruins of Pompeii, at the foot of the imposing Mount Vesuvius. The route of the excavations begins in Porta Marina, the door of the economic and political center of the city. The guide will lead the passengers on their journey on foot and will evoke the history and experience of a typical day in antiquity. We can admire the luxury mansions and the fabulous art of the rich aristocrats who came to Pompeii to escape the crisis in Rome. Their houses were designed around an interior garden with few windows on the outside. We will visit one of the most modest houses and also explore the ancient baths, temples, theaters and markets. Return to Naples by bus for the panoramic visit of the city on foot: since the code of circulation of December 2012 does not allow the visit by coach.
We will discover the city through an interesting walk through the historic center. Admire the San Carlo Theater (exterior visit), designed by Antonio Niccolini between 1810 and 1816. This theater is the most important in Naples and one of the most famous in the world, which due to its size and structure, has been the model of The following theaters in Europe. We will continue walking towards the heart of the city until we reach the imposing and majestic Piazza of Plebiscito where they look out: the Royal Palace, one of the four residences used by the royal house of the Bourbons of Naples, the Basilica of San Francesco di Paola example most important of the neoclassical period in Italy, the Palace Salerno built at the end of the eighteenth century and the Palace of the Prefecture of Naples. Here, in Piazza Plebiscito, you can also find the famous and historic Café Gambrinius. Our walk will continue through the Plaza Ayuntamiento where the current Mayor of Naples resides in the San Giacomo Palace. The San Giacomo Palace was built in the '800s and houses the interior of the Church of Santiago Españoles (interior visit) built as a hospital for the poor in 1540 by the vice-president Don Pedro de Toledo and where he himself was buried. We will continue along Via Medina, passing next to Maschio Angioino (Castel Nuevo), symbol of the city of Naples, until returning to the maritime station for boarding.
