During the walk, we will discover the old and the new parts of the Bergen. We will see the most interesting highlights of the modern as well as the old wooden city with its wide streets and narrow alleys. The Fortress, the St. Mary’s Church and the fish market are some of the places that we are going to discover.

Our guide will meet you at the Bergen port. We will arrive at the old pier (Wharf) that is declared a World Heritage by UNESCO. There we will learn about the Hanseatic League activity in Bergen.

The old quarter of the Bryggen dock reminds about the importance of Bergen in the Hanseatic League’s commercial empire during the fourteenth - mid-sixteenth centuries and about the cod trade control of northern Norway through privileges granted by the Crown. In total there were four offices abroad of which Bryggen is the most well-preserved today.

The typical wooden houses in this neighborhood were caught in flame on numerous occasions. The last fire dates back to 1955 and caused serious damages to the typical wooden houses of Bryggen. The reconstructions were based on the original models with the use of traditional methods, in order to preserve the essential aspect of the site, which is a relic of the old wooden urban structures that were widespread in northern Europe at that time. Today, there are 62 buildings located in this urban area.

We will also see the statues of famous Norwegians such as Henrik Ibsen and Edvard Grieg, and learn about their interesting lives and work. A walk tour in Bergen is the best way to enjoy the atmosphere of the city. The center is quit compact and full of attractions. We cannot miss the funicular ride, Fløibanen, to discover the beauty of the city and its surroundings from above.
