Today we will discover the surroundings of the Jotunheimen National Park that extends over 1,200 km² (wild nature occupies most of this country).
The pass on the Sognefjell mountain is the highest road in Norway and northern Europe in general; its highest point is 1434 meters above sea level. The landscape offers stunning views of the Jotunheimen National Park, where you will find twenty-seven of the highest peaks in Norway.

This road of two directions and something more than one hundred kilometers in length is one of the most spectacular in Europe and offers on the way views of several glaciers and infinite peaks, joins the east with the west and we can see along its route the "Varders" that is to say, stone pyramids that indicated the safe steps for the walkers and caravans of horses that crossed the area.

The road to the mountain was first opened in 1938 for cars, after two years of work where approximately two hundred unemployed young people worked on it for two summers with simple tools and in adverse weather conditions. During the winter the passage is closed due to snow and weather conditions.
The landscape along the route is very varied. We start a winding journey from Fortun upwards, in the paradise of the Sognefjellet mountain. On the plateau we will have free time to walk and enjoy the beautiful landscape and maybe, pick up some berries as well, take pictures.
Return to the port of Skjolden for farewell.
