On our tour through the last vestiges of the Jewish Riga, we will visit the city Synagogue, the
Janis Lipke Memorial, the Ghetto and the Holocaust Museum.
During the day we will explore the atmosphere of Riga, begging from the very heart of the city
Our day destined to explore and participate in the atmosphere of Riga starts in the very heart of
the city, - in the middle of the medieval old town.
There we will visit the most outstanding historical places: the original properties of the
prosperous tradesmen of old times, the old guild houses, alongside with the public squares and

the old lovely cobblestone streets that invite us to think about the coexistence or dialogue
between ancient and modern times. This is an ideal place to have a coffee and do some shopping,
if desired.
We will see an open-air old Medieval Market that is located on the city square; Also, we will
have a chance to admire splendid facade of the Blackheads house (house of unmarried
foreign merchants), see the old city wall and The Powder Tower, which reflects the progressive
development of the medieval fortification’s construction.
Moreover, we are going to have a walking tour so we can enjoy delicious local cakes, take a
break or have a cup of coffee, and thus, immerse into the charming atmosphere of old Riga.
The only Synagogue that currently operates in Riga located between the narrow structures of the
medieval old town. Strategically wise location is one of the reasons why this building is still
intact while so many others Jewish temples were destroyed or burned in the flames of World
War II.
The local Jewish community, despite the troubles and difficulties that it has inherited, has been
reinventing itself every day.
The Riga Ghetto and the Holocaust Museum is a beautiful example and an open book of the
Jewish heritage in Latvia; the guide will show us endless lists of names and stories, since we still
can feel the strength of the ancient messages that surrounds us.
Later on we will continue our way along the Daugava River to the Janis Lipke Memorial located
in the scenic Kipsala, with the breathtaking panoramic views of the city. We will make our way
along the riverbank enjoying the spectacular scenery offered by the old wooden houses or, even
sometimes, by the spontaneous invasion of some typical young couple who walks around or
poses for their marriage photo shoot.
The museum building itself is a simple wooden house and also a symbol that represents the
kindness of the human being and the exceptional courage of a man who risked his own life and
lives of his loved ones in order to protect more than 50 people that were saved from the Jewish
ghetto during the war. The building itself is an ascetic structure with no modern style windows
used to express the events of the past.
From here, our journey will be dedicated to the fascinating history of the past and the present of
the Riga and its important Jewish heritage. The trip will end when we return to the transport unit
from where we take you back to the cruise port or to the hotel.
