The old part of the city of Kotor developed within a small triangular area enclosed by the city walls that extends to the Fort of St. John. During the guided tour of this charming little town, your guide will show you, among other things, palaces, the city walls, 5 km long, built by the Venetians who started working on them in 1420 and continued to reinforce them until the middle of the century XVIII. The walls, which enclose the entire old town, formed a unique fortification project that could resist attacks for months and survive long sieges.

We will visit the Cathedral of Saint Tripun, one of the oldest churches in Europe and the oldest in the former Yugoslavia, its Romanesque beginnings date from 1166 on a previous church from the 9th century. Saint Tryphon, along with Blessed Hosana, is the patron saint of Kotor, he was a martyr defending the faith and is a saint highly revered by the Orthodox Church. The city came to possess the relics of the saint from the 3rd century, his head, when a merchant ship in the year 890 delivered it to the city, are in a marble urn held by two angels, The silver sarcophagus contains the relics of the body and the golden urn the head of the saint. The showcases of the chapel exhibit another 58 relics, among which is a supposed splinter of the Holy Cross.

We will continue our tour of the Maritime Museum, located in the beautiful baroque building of the Grgurin Palace from 1732. Here we can find, among others, portraits of famous captains, ship models, navigation instruments, maps, engravings and watercolors of coastal cities, costumes of navigation, a valuable collection that forms part of the maritime heritage of the city.
