From the charming historical center to the world of space with the Columbus module that is part of the international station and walks on the Schlachte promenade along the east bank of the River Weser, - Bremen is full of surprises.
Bremen has always been a cosmopolitan city, open to the world with an independent spirit. Nowadays, the two sister cities - Bremen and Bremerhaven, form the smallest German "Länder".
The gorgeous town hall, the German Renaissance-style Rathaus and the majestic statue of Roland on the famous market square, - the Markplatz are one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and the pride for locals. On same square located a little out of the ordinary the Haus der Bürgerschaft - the Parliament building dating from 1960. In front of this building is the "Hole of Bremen" where you can throw a coin that later will be used for charity and the musicians of Bremen.
Also, in the same square is the Bremen Cathedral or St-Petri Dom and the monument to the musicians of Bremen from the famous Brothers Grimm’s story.
The old district of Schnoor and its famous street of old buildings, - the Böttcherstrasse, are also shape the landscape of the old town. This street is famous because in 1930 it was redesigned in an "art-deco" style and the Nazis considered it a clear example of the degeneration that invaded Germany and that undermined its culture and traditions.
