Take a trip to Hillerød and Helsingør, which lie to the north of Copenhagen. First you will visit the Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød, which is one of the largest in Scandinavia. Built on three small islands and completely surrounded by a moat, this Danish Renaissance Castle has three separate wings and an elevated front entrance and is topped with multiple gables, spires and turrets. Today the castle is home to the National History Museum which boasts priceless paintings, silverware and porcelain, furniture and tapestries. We will then continue to Fredensborg Castle, which is where the Queen of Denmark resides in the spring and autumn. There will be a brief stop to take photos. In the north-eastern part of Zealand Island stands Helsingør Kronborg Castle. William Shakespeare based Hamlet on the character of Amleth from Danish mythology, and despite never seeing the castle, set the play in it. Return to Copenhagen.

Frederiksborg Castle: 12 EUR Per Person
The castle was built in the 17th century by King Christian IV. In 1839 it was destroyed by a fire, but was rebuilt and the museum was established in 1878.

Kronborg Castle: 12 EUR Per Person
It was originally built as a fortified castle in the 1420's to control the strait between Denmark and Sweden. During its history the castle has been destroyed by fires and bombing, but has always been rebuilt. Today you are able to visit the castle, the ceremonial hall and the catacombs (where you will see a statue of the sleeping Holger Danske, the warrior hero who, according to legend, will wake up when Denmark is in danger).
