ALTA Panoramic Tour
Panoramic of Alta
Alta is the largest city in Finnmark, with 19,000 inhabitants. It has three main centers: Bossekop, Elvebakken to the east, with the airport and the port, and Bukta.
Bossekop became a commercial city in 1791 and the Sami come here twice a year during the markets of December and March. Although Alta is located at 70˚ north latitude, the valley is covered with pine forests and fertile land. In fact, it is the northernmost land where you can grow barley.
Today's excursion takes us to take a panoramic view around Alta and to visit the interior of the Aurora Borealis Cathedral. The City Council wanted to turn the new cathedral into an emblematic building, from the architectural point of view, the dynamic contours of the new church that rise in spiral culminating with the tip of the clock tower forty-seven meters from the ground, resemble the movements of the Aurora Boreal flight.
The Cathedral of the Northern Lights in Alta, is an architectural work that is worth visiting. The design of the cathedral is a mixture of nature and local culture. The building is a point of reference that symbolizes the extraordinary natural phenomenon of the Northern Lights. The facade, covered with titanium, reflects the northern lights during the long and dark periods of the Arctic winter.
We will make a panoramic tour of the city with stops to take photos.
At the end of the tour, return to the port and farewell.
